Simonpietro Salini, the entrepreneur who, with his brother Franco, led the construction company founded by his father Pietro in 1936 since the 1960s, has died in Rome. He was 92 years old and passed away today, Sunday, July 21.

The Webuild group remembers him as follows: «An architect and builder of great humanity and strategic vision, he was one of the interpreters of the Italian rebirth that marked the economic boom of the country in the 1960s, contributing to the construction of large infrastructures and buildings. Salini joined the family business in 1956, taking over its management. In 1962 he began expanding his business abroad, and two years later, upon his father's death, he took over the reins of the company and gave it a new direction: the world, starting with Africa, the continent that at that time offered the greatest opportunities for companies specializing in large-scale infrastructure projects. He helped build large-scale infrastructure projects that over the years have contributed to changing the face of some African countries, from Ethiopia to Sierra Leone, from Ghana to Nigeria, from Algeria to Libya".

"His commitment and dedication to the company, combined with the foresight of the entrepreneur - the group writes - have started the transformation of a family business into a large industrial group. In recent years he has reduced his operational activity, remaining honorary president of Salini Costruttori and other companies in the group, and moving to the Siena countryside where he has passionately collected medieval Sienese works of art".
