The church of Madonna di Montauto is a sacred building located in Santo Stefano in Vicododuecimo in Rapolano Terme.
It was built in 1676 by Ottaviano Martini around a small frescoed tabernacle depicting the Madonna and Child, an image considered miraculous.
It tells of the apparition of the Madonna to a young shepherdess who used to decorate the tabernacle daily with flowers, while she passed with the flock.
In the period of famine, the shepherdess, who could not provide for the flower offer and her sustenance, appeared to the Virgin who invited her to go home where she would find food in abundance for the whole year, for herself and for her loved ones .
