Modern sculpture located in a secluded corner of the water park
The author
Mauro Berrettini (Buonconvento, Siena 1943), trained at the Art Institute of Siena and the Art School of Carrara, taught Art Education in schools and then devoted himself solely to sculpture. In 1981 he collaborated with internationally renowned artists, such as Pietro Cascella, Giò Pomodoro, Costantino Nivola and Joe Tilson, on the "Campo del Sole" project in Punta Navaccia, in the municipality of Tuoro sul Trasimeno. In 1984 he created the setting of Piazzetta Artemio Franchi in Siena, the vital hub of the Contrada della Torre. He has therefore continued to collaborate on collective sculpture projects in environmental and urban contexts, such as the sculpture La Pietra Sospesa in the Sculpture Park of Pievasciata in Chianti and the park created for the new Agrestone district in Colle Val d'Elsa. He is the author of fountains and monumental sculptures in various Italian cities; he has participated in numerous personal and collective exhibitions throughout Italy. Berrettini's monument, which, enclosed within a stone circle, creates a symbolic space for recollection in the vast Water Park, is named after a Pakistani child, a symbol of the workers' struggle for childhood rights. The work, which seems created to be seen from above, to recall a sort of sundial and the shapes of the sun and the moon, is a suggestive urban furniture and seat for visitors.
