The route of the trail runs along farm roads well maintained and easy to follow. It starts from the Ponte d'Arbia, a rest stop along the ancient Francigena and continue along the right bank of the river, which leaves just after crossing the bridge of the tributary Sorra. The road, after a large curve, goes to Saltennano that appears in a beautiful position on a hilltop. After visiting the complex, you continue to walk uphill along a road lined with cypress trees. We get to St. John in Pompeggiano now known as Ville Petroni, a place surrounded by greenery which offers a splendid view. From here you can continue and turn left towards the farm Lombricaia, from where it returns to the bridge on Sorrae then to Ponte d'Arbia.
